WordPress Maintenance Plan Features
Up-time Monitoring
I will check to see if your website is online every 5 minutes. If the website goes down we will confirm if it’s because of server problems, security problems or software problems. So many businesses find out their website is down from their clients, don’t let this happen to you. If your website repeatedly goes offline, you won’t only lose potential sales but damage your website’s “quality reputation” in the eyes of Google and the like.
Blacklist Monitoring
Daily blacklist checks to ensure that your server, website and your domain name are on the list and if they are, I will get them off the blacklist. Having your domain name on the blacklist could mean having all your sent emails go to spam. Similarly, if you’ve been sending out mass emails without using a proper newsletter service, your website may be removed from search engines or worse, it may still appear with a label warning users that your site is unsafe.
Page-Speed Monitoring
The speed of your website may vary based on the amount of traffic you are getting and any errors that might be causing a bottleneck in the page-load such as broken images and broken links. I will check your site’s code monthly to make sure it stays lean and clean. In some cases, it may simply mean that you’ve outgrown your server and it’s time for a faster system. This usually means the number of visitors to your website has grown!
Software Updates
Like the operating system on your smartphone or computer, updates are released every so often. If you neglect these updates for too long your site may experience compatibility issues, security risks or worst yet, if done improperly, the whole website could break. Think of it this way, without a regular oil change for your car, bad things happen. As they say, a little regular maintenance can save you a ton of cash from having to do repairs later.
Security Firewall
A firewall is similar to having a security guard. It monitors all the visitors to your website, both humans and robots. Should there be any suspicious activity such as too many failed attempts to log into the website or trying to access files that don’t exist… these are clear signs of a hacker trying to break in and the firewall immediately kicks them off the server and bans them from returning. Hackers seldom break-in on their first attempt which is why a firewall is invaluable.
Malware Scanner
Given the fact that WordPress is “open-source” (free to the public) there are shady people who find ways of infecting free plugins and free themes. After all, you get what you pay for… this is why it’s a good idea to have a daily scan of your website for malware. If a search engine like Google finds malware on your site, you can count on them removing your website from their search results. If a client who visits your site has their computer infected… you get the picture; better safe than sorry.
Image Compression
One of the most common causes of slow page speed is oversized images. The average user simply uploads images straight off their camera not knowing that images should be kept to a file size smaller than 300 kb (ideally 100 kb) let alone know how to use something like photoshop to compress the file size. With a care plan, I will configure an image compressor on the back-end of your website that will automatically resize and compress your images to fit your pages perfectly ensuring that your images never slow down your website.
Nightly Backups
Have you ever lost the images on your phone? I bet you were thankful you had them backed up or devastated because you didn’t back them up. This is why I recommend a nightly backup of your website. It’s not just content you post but also sales orders, product inquiries and any other data you may collect from your visitors. Last but not least, is knowing how to restore a backup without losing any new data that was created since the most recent backup. Rest assured that if a backup needs to be restored I’ll make sure new data isn’t lost.
Content Updates
Also known as “content management” some of our plans include content updates. Depending on the nature of your business you may need a monthly update such as posting a new offer, adjusting prices or removing products that are no longer offered. In some cases, if you have a more vibrant website you may need to post a weekly announcement, new blog post, etc. If you don’t have the time I’m here to help. If you rather learn to do it yourself, take a look at my WordPress training packages. I’ll even show you how to optimize it for SEO as well.
